The Art Itself
Laura’s paintings are rich with feeling, luminous, layered and full of life. Using a self-developed variation of the veil painting technique, she creates depth through translucent washes, building imagery that shimmers with intuition, emotion and movement.
Her practice explores the interconnectedness of life - each brushstroke a meditation on what’s seen and unseen, vibrant and subtle, human and more-than-human.
These aren’t just visual compositions, but living experiences in colour: vulnerable, emergent, and resonant with the pulse of the natural world.
Whether in watercolour or oil on canvas, her work speaks to something elemental. Colour becomes emotion. Form becomes story. Her art becomes a metaphor for the art of being.
Unique Techniques
Laura has developed the veil painting technique to apply it to oil- on-canvas works. She builds depth through translucent layers, often working intuitively, allowing forms to emerge spontaneously, working with what the colours want to express.
In both solo exhibitions and collaborative projects, Laura’s work resonates with a unique aliveness, inviting viewers into a contemplative space where colour, complexity and consciousness dance.
Creative Works
Laura has exhibited her art both in the UK and here in Australia. Laura’s watercolour piece Improvisation won second prize at Ocean Shore’s 2012 art expo, showcasing her distinctive veil painting technique.
Beyond the canvas, she also paints album covers, murals, printed gift cards, creates mosaics for kitchen splashbacks and more, and is currently working on illustrating a children’s book.
Creative Process
Laura’s creative process is guided by a deeply felt sentience, a reverence for the unseen forces of nature, an ode to animism - the vitality in all living things.
Inspired by childhood experiences of clair-sentience or synaesthesia, a profoundly life-altering “long dark night of the soul” as a young adult, and the ever dancing relationship between shadows and light (both literally and metaphorically),
Laura believes passionately in the possibility of a single flame to light up dark places. Her work reflects these experiences, and is an ode to the power of illumination.
Commisions
Laura is available for commissions - mediums include oil on canvas, pen or pencil drawings, oil or chalk pastels, watercolour, mosaics or murals.
Whether you’re after a personalised painting, a unique gift, album artwork, or something that captures a particular energy, moment or memory.
