LAURA TARGETT ANNOUNCES NEW SINGLE “FIVE PAIRS OF HANDS”

A Celtic-Infused Celebration of Tradition, Connection, and Creative Fire

Renowned artist, songwriter, and fiddler Laura Targett is set to release her new instrumental single, “Five Pairs of Hands”, an uplifting, fiddle-led track featuring a driving set of original tunes. The single offers the first glimpse of her long-awaited solo album, marking a triumphant return to her creative voice after more than a decade away from solo recording.

The track honours Laura’s roots in traditional Irish fiddle music while offering a personal and distinctive expression. As Laura describes: "This track is a celebration of the spirit of folk music, honouring tradition while letting the tunes pour out of our fingers and hearts in our own unique ways, wherever we land, here and now."

“Five Pairs of Hands” is a traditional-style set of three original tunes that represent a full circle, both literally and metaphorically, tracing Laura’s journey from her traditional roots into the wide world and back home again. The first tune from the upcoming album was born 25 years ago on a stormy night aboard a boat in Kent, UK, surrounded by wine, laughter, and the music of friends.

"It was written with one pair of hands, and I honestly can’t remember where the other four came from! I’ll credit them to the ancestral giants of folk music who paved the path before me," Laura laughs.

The track features an all-star cast of collaborators, including Michael McGoldrick (flute), Tim Edey (guitar), Greg Sheehan (percussion), Saskia Tomkins (cello), and Steve Berry (bass and guitar), all long-time friends and inspiring creative influences in Laura’s musical journey.

With this release, Laura steps confidently into a new chapter as an artist, composer, and storyteller. “Five Pairs of Hands”marks a return to her solo artistry after years devoted to motherhood and performing as a freelance fiddler with diverse projects.

“Five Pairs of Hands” releases 22 August 2025 on all major platforms.
