Laura Targett Releases Powerful New Instrumental Single "Children Of War" - A Moving Tribute to Humanity and Hope

Renowned artist, composer, and virtuoso fiddler Laura Targett returns with her deeply moving new single, “Children Of War”, an evocative instrumental piece that speaks to the sorrow, resilience, and hope at the heart of the human experience.

Grounded in the haunting beauty of Celtic slow airs and enriched with influences from Eastern Europe and the Middle East, “Children Of War” draws inspiration from Ara Dinkjian’s composition “Picture” (shared with his blessing), yet emerges with a distinctive voice all its own, one that resonates in the space between sorrow and transcendence.

“I was driving to Scotland in the rain,” Laura recalls, “reflecting on the human struggle, heart aching for the kids around the world caught in conflict. As I crossed the lowlands, the sun suddenly broke through the clouds, illuminating an otherworldly path between two hills, and this melody played itself in my head like it was already written.”

Back in the studio, Laura brought the melody to life alongside acclaimed producer Robin Wynn Evans and celebrated multi-instrumentalist Tim Edey, who instantly improvised a stunning piano accompaniment. She then reached out to long-time musical inspiration Nikola Parov, whose masterful performance on kaval added a deeply expressive layer to the piece. “It was a dream come true to have Nikola on this track,” Laura says.

"Children Of War" also features percussionist Tim Lane and double bassist Emiliano Beltzer, adding depth and texture to a composition that feels both ancient and contemporary.

This release is more than a piece of music, it’s a call to compassion. 90% of Bandcamp proceeds from the single will be donated to two humanitarian charities:

  • Olive Kids – supporting the medical needs of children in Gaza

  • Te-Kworo Foundation – helping Ugandan girls who have survived war and sexual violence

“This piece is dedicated to the children who suffer so much in times of war. Music may not change the world overnight, but it can open hearts.”

With this second single, Laura Targett reclaims her space as a solo artist after years devoted to motherhood and collaborations. “Children Of War” marks a bold return, a testament to her artistry, sensitivity, and storytelling power.
